Adolescents and Teens

What I offer > Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis > Adolescents and Teens

Freud said that "for the individual who is growing, detachment from the parental authority is one of the most necessary but painful processes of one´s development." This is why the adolescent tries to express oneself by fluctuating rebellious and conflictual behaviour as well as by bouts of dependency and closeness with episodes of intense detachment. This inconsistent and fluctuating conduct by adolescents can explain the painful struggle of separation which affects them deeply.

Entrance into adolescence assumes the reinterpreting and the resignifying of former understanding and accomplishments. At these crossroads, the psychological work of the deidealization of childhood and the experience of more or less intense identity crisis in each adolescent is inevitable and necessary.

As a result, conflicts of rebellion and combative behaviour are frequent with the adolescent and one´s parents. At this stage in life, failure and disconnection in one´s studies can appear, as well as: confusion, conflicts, identity problems, difficulties in symbolization, eating disorders, isolation and inhibitions that can be accompanied by fears and phobias, obsessions, violent behaviour and various irrational displays of conduct. As one´s former patterns of behaviour and understanding are resignified, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy can accompany the adolescent or teenager through the difficult and painful process of modifying and reorganizing one´s personality. Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy gives the individual the appropriate resources and tools to cope with inner difficulties that cause the above mentioned symptoms.

Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in adolescence is a unique opportunity to begin to tackle these issues and to rebuild one´s own personal history for the future.
